What do you consider when you hear the words “wellness in the workplace”? The gym membership your office supplies at a discount? Or maybe the time they replaced all the chips in the vending machine with “healthy” snacks? Encouraging physical activity and healthy eating obviously benefits an individual, but these approaches don’t have a direct connection to improved health or job performance.

Equally, traditional methods toward employee well-being tend to have too narrow a focus. However, holistic wellness (the interconnection of both your physical and mental well-being) focuses on supporting someone through all their needs. When you consider a holistic approach to wellness, you can support the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being of employees.
